Ursula Hourihane

British author of children's books. She wrote two pony stories and a donkey story. Her most interesting book is The Tale of Julip. This was based on the first Julip model horses which were created by Lavender Dower. These early models were made of fabric rather than the later latex and photographs of them in various poses accompany the text. This book is a real rarity and a prize for collectors of Julip models as well as pony book collectors. Her other pony book The Bargain Pony is a much more traditional pony story.

Collector's info:
All hard books to find, even in the UK, but especially The Tale of Julip which is very rare indeed. The Bargain Pony was published in German in a few different editions and is easy to find there and an option if you can read German. Danny Finds the Sea is the easiest of the three to find but is still not particularly common.

A PONY FOR A PAGEANT
in PONY MAGAZINE MAY 1983
ILLUSTRATED BY MARGARET MAY

Collector's info:
These old pony magazines are hard to find nowadays. Sometimes job lots of them appear on eBay and other similar internet selling sites. Outside of the UK I would think they are almost impossible to get hold of.
